This is a fairly basic diet tracking tool with a smallish food database (compared to rival packages), which might nevertheless be sufficient for dieters who don't want to get too heavily into computerizing their diet and really just want to track their basic nutrient and calorie intakes. This is fine as far as it goes, but the lack of a proper diet planning calendar or recipe management system make it hard to do things like plan balanced meals week by week to make sure you get the nutrients you need and avoid those you don't. All you can really do is keep track of your nutrient intake retrospectively. Another major omission (though one shared by many lower-priced dieting software programs) is the lack of a decent facility for keeping track of your exercise and workout sessions. This means that whilst you know exactly how many calories you are consuming, which is admittedly very useful, you have little idea how many you are expending. This removes one of the most rewarding and motivating aspects of using dieting software and makes proper calorie budgeting difficult. The user interface is nicely streamlined, so meal logging is easy and shouldn't take you more than a few minutes every day, partially because the program itself is fairly uncluttered by what other diet software packages would call "features". Aesthetically, the look of the program is the dictionary definition of "under whelming". The choice of color scheme is interesting. You have to give Paraben credit for trying to break away from all those Microsoft greys, blues and more greys, but the yellow, magenta and beige look of some pages may make you think you've traveled back in time to the 1970's. It's not immediately obvious from the Paraben website (which is a bit sketchy when it comes to details) but there is a free trial version available if you want to give Diet Tracker a go. Product technical support is available by email, but there is no phone help line and in-program help facilities are a little basic. As a Diet Tracker, this program works fine, but meaningful diet management requires far more than is on offer here. Dieters who literally only have $19.95 to their name may find Diet Tracker handy, but for most it would be worth investing the extra five or ten bucks and buying a package that helps you design, plan and execute your diet as well as track it, and maybe even log your exercises too. If no other dieting software existed, Diet Tracker would be a very neat little tool, but, as it is, the best that can be said about using Diet Tracker is that it's cheap and better than having no diet tracking software at all.
